Location: Total Packaging, Harderwijk, Netherlands
Industry: Luxury Carton Box Manufacturing
Background
Total Packaging, a producer of luxury carton boxes for cosmetic brands and other industries, recently moved its production to a new facility in Harderwijk, Netherlands. The facility, measuring about 100 meters by 50 meters and standing 16 meters tall, has 4,300 solar panels that generate 2MW of power.
The Challenge
The new factory hall needed effective cooling in the summer to maintain good working conditions for employees and machinery. Daikin provided ten R32 Rooftop units, each with a 70kW cooling/heating capacity, and large air tubes to circulate fresh air. However, with the rooftop units located 16 meters high, external sensors are required to capture accurate conditions at ground level where people work and machines operate.
The Solution
Aranet sensor network was installed and integrated with the Daikin climate management system called ITM to maintain optimal conditions at the facility’s ground level.
Aranet solution was selected for its wireless capabilities, as using wired sensors would be impractical and result in time-consuming and costly installations Aranet4 Pro sensors were chosen to monitor environmental conditions at ground level. These sensors measure CO₂ levels, temperature, relative humidity, and atmospheric pressure. These parameters are crucial for employee productivity and comfort in the workplace.
By using integration functionality, Daikin ITM utilizes Aranet data to precisely monitor and control the indoor environment. Daikin Rooftop units operate based on temperature, relative humidity, and CO₂ level data at ground level, adjusting heating, cooling, and ventilation regimes accordingly.
Implementation Process
The Aranet4 sensors were strategically placed throughout the facility at a height of 2 meters to ensure comprehensive coverage, capturing data critical for maintaining a comfortable and efficient indoor environment.
Data is displayed locally on the sensor screen and transmitted wirelessly to the Aranet base station, located next to the Daikin ITM. The controller ensures automated adjustments to the HVAC system based on real-time conditions.
“Having the Aranet4 sensors at ground level is crucial for us. The data they provide, integrated with Daikin ITM, allows the rooftop units to be precisely controlled, ensuring that our employees work in a comfortable environment and our machinery operates efficiently,” says Zwier van der Weerd from Aalberts Installaties, responsible for the installation of the Daikin system.
“This solution reduces energy consumption by targeting specific areas needing cooling or heating.”
Conclusion
The implementation of Aranet4 sensors at Total Packaging’s new facility in Harderwijk shows how modern technology can enhance indoor air quality and operational efficiency. By using real-time data and advanced HVAC controls, Total Packaging ensures a comfortable and productive environment for its employees, even in challenging conditions.
Aranet products used in this solution include Aranet4 Pro and Aranet Pro Base station.
